About Amadea

Amadea Martino Smith was born in Olympia Washington in 1999.  Her family soon relocated to Wayne PA, where she now resides.  At the age of 3, Amadea exhibited her aptitude for singing, when she spontaneously climbed on stage and joined the choir during a church Easter service.  She’s been singing ever since.

Amadea started Creative Dance classes at the age of 2. She has performed in modern and jazz concerts as well as with her church’s creative dance group, Movers and Shakers.  In 2007 she was invited to perform as a supernumerary in the Opera Company of Philadelphia‘s production of Falstaff. She played the part of a fairy. She was invited back to perform in their productions of Hansel and Gretel and Norma, where her roles were a dancing Angel, and Norma’s child, respectively.

Amadea returned to musical theater with Chestnut Hill College’s production of Fiddler on the Roof, where she played the part of Bielka, the youngest daughter. Oliver!, at the Walnut Street Theatre followed, where she was cast as an orphan and a school girl.  She returned to The Walnut in Fiddler on the Roof, and again got to play the role of Bielke.  Amadea appeared next in Annie, at the Media Theater,  where she played Duffy.  There she had the priviledge of working with the wonderful Wanda Sykes.  Amadea’s most recent role was the outspoken Brigitta, in The Sound of Music at The Centre Theater.

It was this role that earned her her first review: ”Amadea Smith was hilarious as the sly Brigitta. She taunted the adults, startling them with her brazen honesty and ability to understand relationships. After the performance, Smith made the most of her stage time, peeking out to blow one last kiss to her adoring fans. Keep your eyes out for this sassy young actress.” – Montgomery Media Publications

In 2010, Amadea joined the Pennsylvania Girlchoir and was awarded the opportunity to sing in Otello, with the Opera Company of Philadelphia, as well as The Cunning Little Vixen with the Curtis Opera Theatre at the Kimmel Center, where she played the role of Pepik.

In November 2011, Amadea debuted with People’s Light & Theatre in their production of Treasure Island: A Musical Panto as the wisecracking parrot, aptly named Polly.

Amadea has studied piano for five years with Marvin Blickenstaff.  She studies voice with Dr. Julie Bishop and ballet at Wayne Center for Ballet and Dance.  She also studies acoustic guitar with Michael Creamer, and is enjoying learning songs by the Beatles and Buddy Holly, among others.

Amadea is concerned about social justice issues, and has held events and raised money for several local and global charities.  With her older sister, Theodora, she started the Glenhardie Girls Baking Company.  During the summers, they sell homemade cookies, donating all profits to children’s charities.  Their Dancing Bracelets project involved making and selling beaded bracelets, and donating the profits to a Philadelphia youth project.  For her 11th birthday party, Amadea organized a food drive and asked guests to bring a bag of groceries in lieu of gifts, which she then donated to a local food bank. In the near future, Amadea hopes to be able to combine her love of singing and passionfor theater with her charitable interests..
